If it were not for the terrible dubbing and the overpowering score that sounded more suitable for a "Tarzan" film, this would actually have made quite decent western. Lex Barker and his "magic silver stick" with his blood brother Apache "Winnetou" (Pierre Brice) have some quite exciting escapades as they try to thwart Herbert Lom ("The Colonel") and his seemingly never-ending army of men who are on the search for the eponymous treasure. It's a colourful adventure story with plenty of gunfights, a mini siege and, of course, plenty of rough and tumble. Made for the German market, which explains the rather quirky inclusion of a German aristocratic butterfly hunter, it has some a rather stilted, almost academic, script; it lacks vernacular and that can render it ridiculous at times, but it's still a decent effort from a nation not known for exploration into the Wild West.
