_**A young woman runs afoul of yokel brutes in backwoods Kentucky**_
An independent college lass (Hermione Corfield) on her way to a job interview in DC is beset by rustic thugs in the hills of western Kentucky (Micah Hauptman & Daniel R. Hill). Will she make it out alive? Sean O'Bryan plays the sheriff while Jay Paulson is on hand as a hick who may or may not help her. Jeremy Glazer appears as the deputy.
“Rust Creek” (2018) is a life-or-death backwoods adventure/crime/thriller in the tradition of "Deliverance" (1972) and "Black Rock" (2012) mixed with “I Walk the Line” (1970) (not to be confused with the 2005 Johnny Cash biopic).
These kinds of flicks are about being backed into a corner in the wilderness and finding your instincts to survive at all costs, including your primitive rage to kill if necessary. Like those other movies, this one is totally realistic and very well done, arguably on par with “Deliverance” and superior to “Black Rock” and “I Walk the Line.”
The film runs 1 hour, 48 minutes, and was shot in and around Louisville, Kentucky. Speaking of which, the locations are spectacularly utilized.
GRADE: A-/B+
